Why does Gel Tag rank highly among birthday party ideas?
There are multiple reasons and reasons vary from one parent or event planner to another. It is a high energy, action packed activity that keeps kids engaged and excited.
Game Objective
The Gel Tag industry is still so new that it has not yet stabilized on a single name. It is also called Gellyball, Gel ball, Gel Soft, Orbeez, Splatrball, Splat Ball, etc. The objective of the game is similar to paintball, lasertag, arrow tag, and other shooter games. There are a variety of games that can be played with Gel Tag equipment but basically teams try to eliminate their opponents by “tagging” them in order to reach a pre-stated goal.
The Equipment
The game of Gel Tag or gellyball uses a battery powered toy that is referred to as a marker, blaster, or gun.
The Ammo
The Gel Blaster shoots a small soft ball made from super-absorbent polymer beads. These balls are called gellyballs, gel balls, water balls, water beads, orbeez, gel pellets, splat balls, or gellets. Often we just say “ammo”. These gel balls are about the size of a grain of sand but expand to the size of a green pea when soaked in water. When fired, they bounce off of a target or burst upon impact and disintegrate. Hitting someone with one of these water balls is what we call “tagging”. Our gel balls are non-toxic and biodegradable.
Does it Hurt?
The sport of gel tag or gellyball is a safe and low impact alternative to paintball. The gel balls don’t hurt and leave a bruise like paintball can. Some people say that at worst, it can feel similar to getting snapped by a rubber band.
How Can Gel Tag Be A Safe Birthday Party Idea?
The game involves a lot of running and ducking. So, a player can stumble and fall and hurt themself. As far as being hurt by the equipment, there is minimal risk. This is because of several reasons. All players wear a safety mask that protects their face, eyes and ears during gameplay. We have strict rules and procedures so that that blasters are not fired outside of gameplay. Additionally, the gel blasters propel the gelly balls at a low velocity. Players that intentionally behave in an unsafe manner are not allowed to play. Games are supervised to help ensure rule compliance.
So the the excitement that playing with these gel blasters brings combined with the built in safety gear and protocols as well as the ease and simplicity of setup and cleanup make this activity fall high on the list for favorite birthday party ideas.
